Requirements
On parcels within Garfield County, open burning may be allowed when fire restrictions are not in effect with the following requirements:
-
- Determine if you are required to apply for a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment smoke permit.
- Apply for a burn permit or contact the applicable fire district (links below) where your burn location is.
- Call Garfield County Emergency Communications Authority at 970-625-8095 before and after burning each day.
Burning is not permitted on Red Flag Warning days as indicated by the National Weather Service and Garfield County Emergency Communications Authority at any time of year. Tips for safe burning when allowed.
No burn permits are issued between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Dry and windy conditions in the winter, spring, or fall months may preclude the provision of burn permits at any time.
