Environmental Health
As part of the Public Health Department, Environmental Health (EH) works to protect Garfield County’s citizens and visitors by assessing and controlling environmental factors that impact human health by providing effective services and education programs. Program areas include on-site wastewater treatment, consumer protection, air quality, water quality, and land use review.
EH staff conduct routine inspections and complaint investigations related to health and sanitation in food establishments, childcares, schools, and special events.
EH oversees the permitting, installation, and use of onsite wastewater treatment systems (septic systems), protecting drinking water resources and surface waters from pollution.
EH responds to concerns related to public accommodations, mobile home parks, camps, indoor air quality, and other recreational facilities.
