The Garfield County Landfill near Rifle is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Recycling at the landfill
Recycling can be brought over to the Garfield County Landfill on County Road 246 in Rifle, creating a one-stop shop for residents dumping trash at the site. The recycling center on Highway 6 is closed.

Landfill hours
SUMMER: The landfill is open 8 am to 4 pm seven days a week in the summer. Summer hours begin April 1 every year. State regulations require that landfills close during periods of high winds, so call 970-625-2516 before heading to the landfill on windy days.
WINTER: Winter hours are observed from October through March. Beginning October 1 the facility is open from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday. The Garfield County Landfill is closed Friday and Saturday, December 24 -25, and again on Saturday, January 1, for the holidays.
Please note that dead animals must be delivered to the scale house by 3 p.m. Customers are required to be unloaded by 4 p.m.
The landfill may be closed on Garfield County designated holidays.
Landfill earns innovation award
The Garfield County Landfill has received the 2018 state of Colorado Grand Conceptor Award for an innovative treatment facility that decontaminates soil that has been exposed to petroleum products.

Tipping fees
Tipping fees at the Garfield County Landfill are a cut/bulk tire rate of $89 per ton, and fluorescent bulbs cost $.50 each.

E-waste collections
There is currently no e-waste pickup at the Glenwood Springs Road Bridge location on Highway 82. E-waste is still being collected at the Garfield County Landfill near Rifle during business hours.

Scale etiquette
- Vehicles accessing the landfill must weigh in and out.
- Please be aware of and courteous to people and activities going on around you.
- Take turns pulling onto scale.
- There are stop signs at each end of the scale, stop here and wait for the green signal light to onto the scale.
- Drive onto and off the scale slowly, avoiding sudden jerks or abrupt halts to the scale.

The South Canyon Landfill near Glenwood Springs is not associated with Garfield County or the Garfield County Landfill. It is located at the South Canyon exit of I-70, and is managed by the City of Glenwood Springs. Directions
At the West Rifle exit, proceed to Hwy 6 west, approximately 3.5 miles.
At the Rulison exit, proceed to Hwy 6 east approximately 2 miles.
From Hwy 6, turn north onto Anvil Point Rd (County Rd 246).
Proceed north on Anvil Point Road for approximately 1 mile.
Turn east on first paved road.
Garfield County landfill is a non-hazardous solid waste disposal facility. The landfill has policies in place to ensure the safe and efficient operation of landfill functions. Fees are based upon weight with the exceptions of certain items that are charged individually.

The Garfield County Landfill is an important public asset and public service operated by the Board of County Commissioners as a self-sustaining enterprise.
The landfill operates with best management practices and sound business judgment, using the Solid Waste Disposal Fund prudently for its capital needs.
